Rare Vintage Texas Instruments TMS1100NLP~ Worlds First Computer on a Chip ~P-Channel MOS four-bit Microcomputer
Texas Instruments, the same company that co-invented the integrated circuit also developedthe world's first commercially available micro-computer, the TMS1100NLP. This is a four-bitmicrocomputer released for sale in 1975.
The base version of this chip, the TMS1000, along with this version, the TMS1100NLP,aregenerally accepted as the first true single chip microcomputers.The TMS1100NLP is anexpanded version of The TMS1000. Both are identical, except this chip has twice the programmemory space. The TMS1100NLP is more rare than the TMS1000.
The TMS1100NLP is supplied in a 28-Pin plastic dip package. It was built with PMOS technologywith clock speed of 400 kHz.These chips are becoming rare and collectible. This plasticpackage version with indent along the side (see photos) is one of the earliest versions of this IC.
Pre-programmed versions of this chip were used in the Speak & Spell educational toy, theBig Trak programmable toy vehicle, and in the electronic game Simon.
