SH-C30G Isolated USB to CAN Adapter Based on Canable 1.0 Pro
- Galvanic Isolation, Powered by Itself: A digital isolator breaks the signal path between the USB side and the CAN side, and an on-board DC-DC converter gives the CAN side its own 5 V and its own ground. Nothing external is needed to make the isolation work — no separate supply, no ground loop, and a fault on the vehicle bus stays on the vehicle bus. Terminal pin 3 is that isolated ground; do not tie it to your PC's ground.
- Open Source Hardware, Actually Published: SH-C30G comes from the CANable open hardware project — and we publish our own design back. The full schematic and PCB layout for this exact board are on our GitHub (dsdtech-official), as editable design files rather than pictures, under the CERN-OHL-S-2.0 licence, together with the firmware images. Inspect it, modify it, build your own.
- Flexibility on Open Protocols: SH-C30G ships with candleLight firmware, which speaks gs_usb — a protocol whose driver is built into the Linux kernel, so it comes up as a standard SocketCAN interface with nothing to install. Use it with cangaroo, can-utils or python-can. Classic CAN 2.0A and 2.0B, up to 1 Mbit/s.
- Built for a Real Bus: A 4-pin 5.0 mm screw terminal instead of jumper wires — CAN_L, CAN_H, isolated ground, and isolated +5 V that can feed a small node on the bus side. A 120 ohm termination switch is built in, so you can switch it off on a bus that already has two. Each CAN line runs through a resettable fuse and a TVS clamp.
- New Firmware, Free on GitHub: SH-C30G shipped with the stock CANable candleLight build, which ignores the 24 MHz crystal fitted on the board. Our own build runs from that crystal and lights the TX and RX LEDs the stock build left dark. Units produced from September 2026 ship with it already installed; earlier units can be updated over USB — free, and entirely optional.
SH-C30G is an upgraded version of SH-C30A. Compared with SH-C30A, SH-C30G adds isolation protection function, which effectively isolates power and communication signals. This design can ensure that the USB interface of your computer or notebook will not be damaged due to short circuit or operating errors, and is especially suitable for various industrial occasions.
