Samsung PM9D3a 3.84TB E1.S enterprise NVMe SSD, PCIe Gen5 x4. Part number MZTL63T8HFLT-00AW7 (MZ-TL63T8A). Serial S7UTNG0Y103499. Includes a Gen5 PCIe x4 to E1.S adapter card (unccoy) with a finned heatsink and a full-height bracket.
Essentially brand new: 0 power-on hours. Only 104 GB has ever been written to it. Samsung rates this drive for about 7,000 TB (7 PB) of writes, so it has used roughly 0.0015% of its life. Wear indicator: 0%.
Use it in an E1.S Gen4 or Gen5 server, or in a workstation or homelab with the included adapter in any x4 or wider PCIe slot. In a Gen5 slot it links at full PCIe Gen5 x4; in a Gen4 or Gen3 slot it works at that slot's speed.
Why the Gen5 link matters: Samsung rates the PM9D3a at up to 12,000 MB/s sequential read and 6,800 MB/s write, up to 2,000K random read and 400K random write IOPS. Reaching that needs a full PCIe Gen5 x4 link; a Gen4 x4 link tops out near 7,900 MB/s. All three of my drives linked at full Gen5 x4 (32 GT/s) in these adapters, with no fallback to a slower speed and zero PCIe errors logged. Many cheap E1.S adapters and risers can't hold Gen5 and quietly drop to Gen4 or Gen3. These are good-quality adapters with a clean signal path, so the drive can run at the speeds Samsung rates it for.
Tested by me on Oct 8, 2026, in the included adapter:
- Linked at PCIe Gen5 x4 (32 GT/s)
- PCIe error counters: 0 corrected, 0 non-fatal, 0 fatal
- Power-on hours: 0. Data written: 104 GB. Data read: 37 GB. Power cycles: 6
- Wear used: 0%. Spare: 100%. Media errors: 0. Error log entries: 0. Critical warnings: 0
- Never exceeded its warning or critical temperature
- NVMe short self-test: passed
- Sanitized with the drive's built-in block erase. Arrives completely empty
Samsung's specs for the PM9D3a line, from Samsung's PM9D3a product page: up to 12,000 MB/s sequential read, 6,800 MB/s sequential write, 2,000K random read IOPS, 400K random write IOPS, rated for 1 drive write per day for 5 years (about 7 PB written at 3.84TB). Firmware LDDJ3U2Q.
Cooling: these are very fast and run hot under load. In a server with E1.S airflow that is handled. In a desktop or homelab, put a fan on the drive and adapter.
