Sonnet Allegro SE 33MHz 68030 68882 16MB RAM Macintosh SE Accelerator Tested
Price: JP $945.00

For sale is a rare Sonnet Technologies Allegro SE 68030 accelerator for the Apple Macintosh SE.

The Allegro SE upgrades the original 8MHz 68000-based Macintosh SE with a 33MHz Motorola 68030 processor, Motorola 68882 floating-point coprocessor, and dedicated 32-bit accelerator memory.

This example is fully populated with four 4MB 30-pin SIMMs, providing the maximum 16MB of RAM supported on the Technologies Allegro SE

  • 33MHz Motorola 68030 processor
  • Motorola MC68882FN33A floating-point coprocessor
  • Four 30-pin SIMM slots
  • 16MB accelerator RAM installed
  • 32-bit accelerator memory path
  • Macintosh SE PDS interface
  • Sonnet originally advertised the Allegro SE as providing up to a 460% performance increase over the standard Macintosh SE. The four onboard SIMM slots allow up to 16MB of additional memory to be installed directly on the accelerator, providing the 68030 with a much faster 32-bit memory path than the SE's original motherboard memory architecture.

This card is fully populated with four 4MB SIMMs for a total of 16MB of installed accelerator RAM. Use of memory beyond the Macintosh SE's normal memory map requires compatible memory-management software; Connectix Compact Virtual was commonly used with the Allegro SE for this purpose.

The accelerator has been fully tested in an Apple Macintosh SE running System 7.1 and is working correctly. The system booted and operated normally with the card installed, and Apple Personal Diagnostics recognized the upgraded 68030 processor.

Included is the Sonnet Allegro SE 2.5.1 software floppy shown in the photos.

The PCB, components, memory modules and connector are in very good condition overall.

This is vintage accelerator hardware and appropriate Sonnet software and memory-management software may be required depending on the desired system and RAM configuration.

Please verify compatibility with your Macintosh and system software before purchasing.

Please see the photos for the exact item and cosmetic condition.
